Seven Days of KI (Day 5): What is Sleep?
For a young 12 year old Wizard, sleep was a nonexistent part of life. Questing all night until 7am wake up? Check. Sneaking into parents bedroom to get the laptop? Check. What is sleep?
Growing up, my parents used to take my laptop at night so I couldn't game on it until sunrise. Being me, I was always up for a challenge and so operation "Sneak into My Parents Bedroom and Get the Laptop Without Getting Caught" began.
Night Gathers and now my Watch Play Begins
My mother was a very light sleeper and it used to take me what felt like an hour in order to even get to the bedside where my laptop was held. I would army crawl across the carpet, making sure not a single sound was made and if it was, I would wait a few minutes to ensure she didn't wake up and see me. Over the years I had perfected this down to a science. After securing the objective, I would embark on my next quest, getting all the way down the creaking stairs to the living room where paradise would await.
In the living room, I was the king. I sat atop the royal throne of couch pillows as I hatched pets and farmed gold throughout the night. When first light shined across the sky, I knew that my nights watch play had ended. Within minutes, my father would be walking downstairs to perform his daily ritual of coffee making.
I kid you not, I had this down to a science.
What is sleep?
What is sleep? At that day and age I did not know. This became a daily habit, one where I could survive off of two hours of sleep, power through school and homework and anxiously await another adventure throughout the vast Spiral.
Nowadays, I think I have a better understanding of what sleep truly is.
When you grow up, you realize that sleep is this amazing magical power cast upon us by Bartleby. Without it, us older Wizards cannot even fight the Gobbler King.... That's saying something.

Sleep is kind of important I guess
As young Wizards, we fail to realize the importance of sleep. We just want to farm all day and farm all night for that awesome new wand or robe but trust me when I tell you that sleep is kind of important too.
When you're not functioning on two hours of sleep, you can truly enjoy all the amazing things the Spiral has to offer with an open mind. That awesome wand will still be available for tomorrow. Take advantage of the sleep while you can because as you grow up, you only want it more and more.
If you want to make a deal, I will gladly trade you my late nights with four hours of sleep for the eight hours of sleep you can get every single night. Please trade me.

Long story short, these late nights are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. I'm not encouraging you go out and do this because sleep is important and you won't be able to function as well throughout the day without it. However, make some memories, have a good time. Enjoy the Spiral for all it has to offer but be smart young Wizards. You don't want Cyrus Drake catching you dozing off during your classes. That wouldn't be a fun chat with Headmaster Ambrose!
Thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
See you in the Spiral!
